Goals of GVM

GOALs of GVM

October, 2023 to September, 2028

3.1 Emergency Response

  • GVM has been a reliable partner for flood victims in Northeast India, particularly in remote areas. Our trained volunteers excel in rescue missions, evacuation, and providing essential first aid. We work closely with local authorities to offer critical support during natural disasters. Since our inception, we've assisted over 150,000 households affected by floods.

3.2 Ensuring Safe Drinking Water

  • In Nalbari, Baksa, and Barpeta districts, GVM has installed water purification systems. In the water-scarce Indo-Bhutan border areas, gravity-driven systems now provide safe drinking water to 3,000 households. We've also set up arsenic and iron removal plants in affected regions. During floods, our volunteers use these systems to ensure safe drinking water is available. Partnering with the local Public Health Engineering department, we've distributed water filters to around 10,000 vulnerable households.

3.3 Sanitation and Hygiene

  • During disasters, maintaining sanitation and hygiene is crucial. GVM educates and supports communities, focusing on safe practices, especially for children, pregnant and nursing mothers, the elderly, and those with disabilities.

3.4 Building Flood-Resilient Communities

  • GVM focuses on creating flood-resilient community assets, such as raised platforms for shelters, elevated tubewells for safe drinking water, and community toilets. We empower communities to adopt these models using existing government schemes.

3.5 Empowering Communities: Addressing Climate Change

  • Since 2007, GVM has been working on issues of climate change. We organize workshops for various stakeholders, including children and teachers. We promote renewable energy, climate-resilient farming, and natural resource preservation.

3.6 Reducing Human-Elephant Conflict

  • In the Indo-Bhutan border area, GVM supports communities in reducing human-elephant conflicts. We've promoted eco-friendly solutions like lemon barricades and solar-powered elephant repellers to protect people and crops.
