The Transformative Journey of Bajwi CIG

Beginning of the Journey

On March 23, 2022, Bajwi Community Interest Group (CIG) was established with six passionate members and a humble und of Rs. 490. Driven by a vision of economic empowerment and sustainable development, they embarked on a transformative journey in Eri silk production.

Enhanced Learning Experience

Recognizing their potential, Gramya Vikash Mancha (GVM), under the Holistic Rural Development Program supported by HDFC Bank, extended its support to Bajwi CIG. The members first gained awareness about Eri rearing and received extensive training in Eri rearing and yarn spinning. They were also trained in mushroom cultivation, Kessheru plantation, and vermi composting. These skills equipped them to explore multiple income-generating activities.The group first gained awareness and training in Eri rearing. Following this, they conducted a field visit to the Silk Park in Kokrajhar. They also received training in cocoon boiling and yarn spinning. Additionally, they were trained in writing cash books, proceeding books, and other necessary documentation.

Community Empowerment

An awareness program organized by GVM inspired 107 participants to form small groups, creating a ripple effect of community empowerment. Despite facing initial challenges such as food scarcity and lack of equipment, the members of Bajwi CIG displayed remarkable resilience and determination. They worked tirelessly, overcoming obstacles through sheer perseverance and a shared vision of progress.

Diversification and Consistent Progress

In 2023, Bajwi CIG diversified its activities by venturing into mushroom cultivation. This initiative not only provided an additional income stream but also promoted sustainable agriculture. They creatively utilized Eri silk worm dung as organic manure, enhancing the quality of their produce. With continued support from GVM, they acquired spinning machines, significantly boosting their yarn production capacity. Additionally, monthly meetings were regularly held to ensure consistent progress and address any challenges faced by the group.

Impact and Future Aspirations

The journey of Bajwi CIG stands as a testament to the power of community collaboration and sustainable practices. Their dedication has not only improved their own livelihoods but has also inspired others in the community to strive for self-reliance and economic stability.Looking ahead, Bajwi CIG aims to expand its operations, explore new markets for their products, and continue uplifting their community through knowledge sharing and mutual support. Their story is a beacon of hope, illustrating how grassroots initiatives, when supported by the right guidance and resources, can lead to significant socio-economic transformation.
