In certain areas of Assam, many adolescent girls and children suffer from anemia, malnutrition, and poor health, hindering their development. Gramya Vikash Mancha (GVM) tackles these issues with comprehensive interventions, including door-to-door growth monitoring and Hemoglobin (HB) testing for over 5,000 children. GVM identify and refer children with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) to Nutrition Rehabilitation Centers. GVM provides counseling on dietary diversity, anemia management, and menstrual hygiene, ensures child immunization follow-up, and promotes participation in Village and Block Health Sanitation and Nutrition Days (VHSND/BHSND). GVM also create awareness on and extend support for ensuring institutional deliveries. Through these efforts, GVM enhances the health and well-being of children and mothers, aiming for a brighter community future.
GVM ensures quality education through bridge courses to address learning gaps, establishing libraries, and providing teacher training. GVM promote modern teaching methods and constructive learning. GVM has been promoting several learning centres and adolescent resource centres in different villages. The Adolescent Resource Centre (ARC) helps bridge the digital divide and integrate technology into the curriculum. GVM also works to strengthens School Management Committees (SMCs) to improve governance and foster collaboration with school authorities.
GVM promotes nutrition security through capacity-building programs for mothers, adolescents, and pregnant and lactating women. GVM emphasize the link between nutrition and mental health and have established kitchen gardens. During "Nutrition Week," GVM conducts food demonstrations to showcase nutritious local foods and recipes.
GVM fosters community engagement by creating children assemblies and mothers' groups. Activities include social discussions, cultural programs, value education and peer leadership development. Interaction meetings with government officials and villagers are organized to discuss community issues.
GVM focuses on protection through strengthening network among stakeholders to address issues like trafficking, drug abuse, and child marriage. GVM collaborate with local authorities to rescue and rehabilitate children. GVM operates a Specialized Adoption Agency (SAA) unit for abandoned children, ensuring proper care and legal adoption processes.
